Mars is a planet that needs the freedom to move around as it pleases. Most planets have no problem letting Mars lead the charge and carry on to continue its mission – several planets even give Mars more fuel.
The thing about Saturn, however, is that it’s like a brick wall with a large stop sign nailed into it. Saturn is a roadblock, forcing Mars to tighten up its game and get real. Saturn is order and structure and hard work. The heavy hand of authority. Mars is limitless energy and action. When you put them together, I see a lot of energy being put exactly where it needs to be and putting any energy elsewhere will only add to the frustration.
Frustrations can build during this aspect because the energy is working so hard and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. It often feels it’s not getting anywhere. That’s why extraneous things tend to fall away as the goal becomes central. We don’t have the desire to bother with things that don’t matter. The goal becomes the only thing there is.
In the context of our current times, battling this pandemic, I see this as mostly positive because the weight of reality increasingly beckons our attention. We are able to deal with facts and figures as they are (Aquarius). Often, however, with this combination, there is such a focus on the problem because it is so large. As much as we are beckoned to get to work, a situation of enormity is in our lap. The energy of this conjunction is direct, pinpoint action. Absolute decisiveness.
There’s a bit of warlike energy between these two, a military flavor. We feel we are at war and we are strategizing, working tirelessly for victory, but the enemy is still out there. Tensions often run high during this time. The conjunction happens every two years or so, so its effect is not always as life-altering as some other conjunctions with Saturn (although it definitely can be) but it’s still roughly a two-week period of higher stress.
Mars and Saturn are two planets that prosper when there are specific goals in mind. Bold determination are keywords. This week behind us was incredibly stressful, and the week ahead will be highly stressful as well, but if we keep chipping away at the problem we may start to see some improvements as the aspect passes and Mars gets further into the middle of Aquarius.
Stay safe, everyone.
